Canadian National Exhibition

The start of the CNE usually is the first sign that summer is coming to an end. For me, it is usually a reminder I am getting older. Opening day falls on or close to my birthday every year so you can guess how I spent the majority of my birthdays growing up.

The EX has changed so much over the decades. I went last year for the first time in more than 10 years and couldn't get over how different it seemed.

For photos of what it used to look like and to learn more about the history of The Ex you can visit the CNE archives at http://www.cnearchives.com/virtual.htm

Summer is quickly coming to an end which means Halloween is just a few months away. I love this sugar crazed holiday but I have to admit, It's not as fun now that my kids are adults and I have nobody to steal candy from. Click here to check out some cool Halloween ads from the past.

Advertisement Artists - Susan Perl

If you were a child of the 1960s or 70s, chances are you read a storybook or two illustrated by Susan Perl.
Born in Austria, Perl studied art in Vienna before moving to the U.S. in 1939 after the Nazis invaded her country.
In America, teen-aged Perl landed herself a job as a staff artist at Vogue Magazine and started her long career as an illustrator.

In 1960s, Perl started illustrating ads for the children's clothing company Health-tex. The best known ads were from the "The Handy Answers to Hard Questions Asked by Children in the Health-tex Years," campaign. This series answered commonly asked questions by young children, wearing Health-Tex clothing as drawn by Perl.

Susan Perl passed away in 1983 at the young age of 60.
